Hunter Marine, the nations largest production sailboat manufacturer, has introduced a new boat that is both a powerboat AND a sailboat. The boat, named theEdge, is a 27 foot sailboat that sports up to a 75HP outboard motor.

theEdge features a kick-up centerboard and a retracting rudder, along with over 330 sq ft of sail. Adding to the boats stability while under sail is 1600 pounds of water ballast. With Hunter’s 35 years of sailboat design experience, this little number is quite a good sailor.

Lift up the centerboard and rudder, dump the ballast, and theEdge takes off at 19.9MPH! She can even tow a water skier.
The versatility of this boat is fantastic. You can sail in the morning, then tow the kids in the afternoon, or sail all day and motor back to the dock before it gets dark at top speed. The boat is also trailerable and pricing includes the trailer. So you can drag to the boat to the Cape, the lake, and anywhere you want to enjoy the water.
Advantage Yacht Sales has an Edge currently in-stock and available for viewing. Enjoy introductory sail-away pricing of just over $40,000. Contact Jack at 978-463-3663 for details.

This is a great story!
You may have heard people comment that Hunters are not “blue water” boats, not capable of handling offshore sailing. This is an odd comment right off the bat since Hunter keelboats 31 feet and larger are all CE rated “A”, which means they are capable of ocean sailing with winds in excess of 40 kts and seas in excess of 4 meters.
OK, but what about ACTUAL ocean sailing experience? I’m glad you asked. Meet Mike Harker. Mike recently completed an around-the-world trip on a production Hunter 49. Oh, and did I mention that he did most of it singlehanded? And that he is paralyzed from the knees down? And that he suffered no serious failures? Is that proof enough for you?
Mike’s trip has been chronicled by Lattitude 38, Yacht World Magazine, TheSailingChannel.com, and in this month’s issue of Sailing Magazine. I got the chance to meet Mike at the recent Newport International Boat Show, where he was in attendance with his Hunter 49, Wanderlust 3.

Of course, after all those miles, Mike did find some flaws — the shower needs a better drain, the drawers under the settee could be better, and the lights in the forward head should be stainless. Hmm, not bad.
Congrats on your trip, Mike. Now what? For his next trick he will circumnavigate again, this time going the “wrong way” (against the wind).

Advantage Yacht Sales is incredibly pleased and excited to announce that we are now the New England dealer for the acclaimed and award winning Colgate 26 sailboat.
The Colgate 26, designed by Steve Colgate and Marblehead native designer Jim Taylor, is a great sailing trainer, family daysailor, and one-design racer. It is used by U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, and Maine Maritime Academy as a training vessel. There is also a one-design fleet in Marblehead, MA that does very well in PHRF races.
The Colgate 26 offers a safe and fast platform, with a large cockpit surrounded by lifelines, a small cabin, spinnaker, and lead keel. It is incredible stable with lots of get-up, even in light wind. The addition of the Colgate brings another American-built, great-value sailboat to the Advantage dealership. To see the Colgate 26 up-close or take a demo sail, please contact Advantage Yacht Sales at 978-463-3663 or boats@advantageyachtsales.com.

We just received an incredible Gulfstar 43 ketch into our inventory. In it’s day, Gulfstar was the Cadillac of sailboats. This is an incredibly seaworthy and spacious vessel. The ketch rig gives you many sail options. This boat has been fully updated: Air conditioning, Refrigeration, Windlass, GPS/Chartplotter, Radar, Autopilot, Wind, Depth, Speed, VHF and more. She has young sails and even a mainsail furling system. The boat is in our yard in Seabrook; call to see this boat before she gets away.
